“It was strange how words meant something when they came out of your mouth. Inside your head they were safe and silent, but once they were outside, people grabbed hold of them.”
Mickey McKenzie has two sisters, one of them is 8 years old (Holly) and another is 15 (Karyn).
Ellie Parker has a older brother named Tom, he is the same age as Mickey but they don't even know each other.
Ellie's brother is accused of sexual assaulting Mikey's sister. Mikey, as any older brother wants revenge.
Ellie is supposed to be a witness to what happened that night in that "party", as any sister she wants to help her brother not going to jail.
One day Mikey and Ellie meet. He goes to her house because he wants to ''kill'' Tom but he isn't home and the one who opens the door is Ellie. From that moment the two worlds collided. Now, Mickey knows who is Ellie but she doesn't know who is he.
''Sometimes if you want something badly enough, you can make it happen. If you miss someone so desperately that it wrecks your insides, you say their name over and over until you conjure then. It's called sympathetic magic and you just have to believe in it to make it work.''
I kind of liked this book, I'm not saying that I loved it. because I really didn't.
At the beginning of the book I couldn't concentrate and get into the story as often happens in other books. I was just fighting the urge to put the book asside and start reading another one, but I didn't do that because I also had read about the characters, I knew the theme of the story and I could not just put the book down and get to think about the end of the book without reading it.
Overall I have to say that I liked the story, I liked the mystery in it, I enjoyed being confused and not know who were the guilty one (Karyn or Tom), if she was lying, if he was lying... if Ellie knew something, if Mickey was just protecting his sister... If If If...
I recommend this book because: this is a beautifully written book, this is a good story, a story that could be true... this book recounts something that happens over and over again worldwide
