What to say? Oh yeah... that's it! I LOVED IT!
If you read some of my reviews you already know that I have that stupid 'tradition': 'If the movie is out then I will watch it and only then I will read the book', maybe for most of you that's a stupid kind of 'tradition' since the movies normally are crap and the books are always BETTER... but that's how I decided to 'work' since I hate to give to the movies bad ratings... so basicaly I watch the movie and I like it, I give it 9 or 10 starts and then I read the book... when I read the book I start hating the movie because it is incomplete but I don't change the score because I think that that's a bad thing to do... so you understand me... right?
While I was reading this book the thing that was all the time in my head was: 'OH MY GOD! It's like... I'm reading about a completely different thing... it's like I didn't see the movie and that's a shame since the differences between the movie and the book are HUGE!'
Basically the movie productors changed the entire story! So if you watched the movie but you didn't read the book just read it!... right now... because the movie is crap comparing to the book... there are too much differences, which is lame because the movie was pretty big and I think that they have too much opportunity to do everything right, they have the chance to do it... the book is not that big. I've seen some movies about ENORMOUS books/stories and even if the movies are not perfect they are accectable, and they are kind of alike... but this one? OMG, forget it okay? Forget the movie and go right-now read the book because only when you finish the book you can say out loud 'RICHELLE MEAD IS A FREAKING GENIUS!'
“Only a true best friend can protect you from your immortal enemies.”
If you never watched the movie or if you never read this book let me explain to you what it is about: basically, on 'Vampire Academy', known for St. Vladimir Academy, vampires are not like 'Twilight' vampires; 'Vampire Diaries' vampires or 'True Blood' vampires... here they are like divided into two BIG groups (the Strigoi - the 'bad' ones; and the Moroi - the 'good' ones) so if you are looking for a story about sadistic vampires this is not the right book for you!
The Moroi vampires are not like the vampires you always heard about... they can walk in the day light, they don't sparkle with the sun, they are not allergic to verbane (at least I think that they are not)... but the Strigoi vampires are mean, and they can't walk in the day light. They feed on humans (as Moroi) but they prefer the blood of Moroi because it leaves them stronger and indestructible.
Moroi are born vampires, they are not humans turn into vampires. Strigoi are Moroi who were turned into 'bad' vampires... you get it? Like... a vampire who gets into another vampire!
Moroi can be killed like a human can, they are not killed with a stupid wooden stake... but as I said before Strigoi can be 'almost' indestructible, they can be killed only with a silver stake.
Now that I talked a little about the 'vampire thing' there's one last kind that I need to talk... and they are the Dhampir. Dhampir are not vampires or something like that, they are not even 'supernatural' I believe, maybe they are, but not as much as 'vampires'... they exist because they are Moroi protectors, they are trained to protect Moroi, like Rose (the main character) is meant to protect Lissa (Moroi Vampire Princess).
“Do you think I'm pretty?
I think you're beautiful
Beautiful?
You are so beautiful, it hurts sometimes.”
I don't really know what to say about this book. I loved it so so much! And I know, if I loved it I should've give it 5 stars and not only 4.5 stars... but for all purposes my 4.5 (at least this one) is like a 5... so don't complain that much! I loved it but I'm expecting to love even more the second book... and that's why I didn't give it that straight 5 that everyone was waiting for... that and because I 'saw' a LOT of differences between the book and the movie and now I'm not sure if I liked the book that much because the movie was crap or if I liked the book that much because I simply liked the book that much! (confusing?!).
