It's not the face, but the expressions on it. It's not the voice, but what you say. It's not how you look in that body, but the thing you do with it. You are beautiful.”
I don't really know how to start this review, I really don't know.
Some years ago (in 2009 I think) my mom and my aunt read this book. They were not the only ones obviously. Everyone was reading this book and I thought that that was kind of stupid. I thought that they were just reading it because the author was Stephanie Meyer and she was the author of the twilight saga which made no sense to me because: first, I didn't like to read and second, because I was not sure if I liked or not the twilight saga (don't judge me, I was 13 years old... now I'm sure that I hate the twilight saga). Now, after 5 years I finally decided to read "The Host" (funny thing).
I started reading this book on May 13th, 2014 and I ended it today (May 18th, 2014). I'm speechless. I have to admit that I saw the movie first because I was not sure if it was my kind of thing, so I watched the movie trailer and then I watched the movie. I absolutely LOVED the movie, the characters and of course the story. I had everyone saying: "the book is so much better than the movie", "I didn't like the movie is so... incomplete!" and I was like "Shut UP! The movie is beautiful 'k?" - NOW I have a second thought. I still think that the movie is beautiful but I can't ignore the fact that the stupid movie is SO INCOMPLETE! That make no sense now! There's missing a lot of things in the movie, lack detail and worse: They changed a lot of things... SHAME.
“You are the noblest, purest creature I've ever met. The universe will be a darker place without you," he whispered.”
So, back to the book.
I feel that I have to say this because I was confused about the topic of this book before reading it.
When I asked my mom what was the topic of this book she said that the topic was aliens. You can imagine my face, I was like "Seriously? You want me to read something about green heads and slim bodies?", but then she said that it was not like that.
Basically this book is about a specie (kind of aliens) named "souls". They are like spiders but a little more cute. They are blue and they shine, they have 3 brains (I think). The "souls" travel from planet to planet searching for a new body to live and this time they chose our planet (the most beautiful of all, of course).
The only way they have to live inside us (kind of, because is not really inside... they stay with our body and some of us have the ability to live inside their minds while they are using us) is to occupy a human body, for that that body can't die.
In this story there are souls, seekers, healers and of course humans who are part of the resistance (the ones who were not captured by the seekers).
The main characters are:
Melanie: a human who was part of the resistance before being captured by a seeker;
Wanderer: a soul that lives in Melanie's body;
Jared: Melanie's boyfriend;
Jamie: Melanie's brother;
Ian: a guy that is also part of the resistance (and he is something more but I can't say anything because I don't wnat to be a spoiler);
Uncle Jeb: Melanie's uncle;
