Synopsis: "This stunning debut captures the grotesque madness of a mystical under-land, as well as a girl’s pangs of first love and independence.
Alyssa Gardner hears the whispers of bugs and flowers—precisely the affliction that landed her mother in a mental hospital years before. This family curse stretches back to her ancestor Alice Liddell, the real-life inspiration for Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Alyssa might be crazy, but she manages to keep it together. For now.
When her mother’s mental health takes a turn for the worse, Alyssa learns that what she thought was fiction is based in terrifying reality. The real Wonderland is a place far darker and more twisted than Lewis Carroll ever let on. There, Alyssa must pass a series of tests, including draining an ocean of Alice’s tears, waking the slumbering tea party, and subduing a vicious bandersnatch, to fix Alice’s mistakes and save her family. She must also decide whom to trust: Jeb, her gorgeous best friend and secret crush, or the sexy but suspicious Morpheus, her guide through Wonderland, who may have dark motives of his own. "

So, when I started reading this book I was like “okay, it is going to be quite boring… maybe I’ll not stick till the end, maybe this book is going to be one of those books that I’ve started but then I did stop reading them because I was almost falling asleep…”, yes, and this book was really slow at the beginning, I was seriously almost falling asleep… but I have to say that I actually read the entire book… if I loved it? NO, really, believe when I say that I didn’t… I was probably expecting a little more when I bought the trilogy, BUT it could’ve been worse.
I decided that I was going to give to this book 3 starts, but then I thought a little and I decided that I was going to give to the book 3.5 stars, not a big change I know, but on goodreads it counts like 4 stars, or almost 4 stars… so DON’T COMPLAIN SO MUCH okay? And there’s the reason why I decided to change the score… it is about Alice, I mean… it is a retelling of “Alice in Wonderland” and I’m not a huge fan of this story, honestly I didn’t even watch the movie till the end, I was always dying because it was always being too boring, I DIDN’T WATCH THE “NEW” VERSION OF THE MOVIE/STORY… IT IS INSANE… so liking this book, even if it’s only a little is a good thing since I don’t like the original story.
I have to say that I’m not the biggest fan of the main character, I don’t really like her, I have nothing in common with her… but I sure liked the boy Jeb… so, even if I don’t like Alyssa I did like the romance between her and Jeb.
As I said before I’m not a fan of this story, don’t ask me why, I’m just not a fan… but I found this retelling pretty interesting, maybe I was expecting something different, I was expecting that the story was really about Alice and not about her grand-grand-grand-daughter… BUT I’m pretty satisfied with the way it actually is.
I recommend this book… and I recommend this book because I just want to do it, not because I loved it… just because I like when people read the same books I read… and I like it because everyone have different opinions and it’s always interesting reading other people opinions (at least that’s what I think)…
