Synopsis: "Zach, Poppy and Alice have been friends for ever. They love playing with their action figure toys, imagining a magical world of adventure and heroism. But disaster strikes when, without warning, Zach’s father throws out all his toys, declaring he’s too old for them. Zach is furious, confused and embarrassed, deciding that the only way to cope is to stop playing . . . and stop being friends with Poppy and Alice. But one night the girls pay Zach a visit, and tell him about a series of mysterious occurrences. Poppy swears that she is now being haunted by a china doll – who claims that it is made from the ground-up bones of a murdered girl. They must return the doll to where the girl lived, and bury it. Otherwise the three children will be cursed for eternity . . ."
“I hate that everyone calls it growing up, but it seems like DYING.”
If I say to you that I totally love horror books, even if I almost sh*t myself everytime I read or watch something creepy, scary or spooky... will you believe me?! Yep, you should.
I wanted this book for a long time, I fell in love with the title and with the cover because it just did sound a little like horror movies with haunted dolls... like Chucky or Annabelle... and I got really interested in that, even if I didn't found the last "Chucky" movie scary... ok, ok... I'm changing the subject so let's talk about the book!
Miss Holly Black, so I never read any book written by this author, as I said before (don't really remember when) I read a tale/short story from the book "My True Love Gave To Me" and I didn't like it so much, so I have one of her books sitting on my shelf ("The Coldest Girl in Coldtown") and I didn't read it yet because I was not sure if I was going to like the way she writes... or even the story, because seriously, it sounds quite crazy for me... but the yesterday I decided that I sould try to read this book because I really wanted to for a long time, and I really was in the mood to read something quite scary.
So, when it is about "Doll Bones" opinions may vary... some people didn't like the book because it was too spooky, other people didn't like the book because it was not spooky at all... I, PERSONALLY loved this book... I think that it was pretty spooky sometimes, and if I was going to read a horror/ghosts book OF COURSE that I wanted it to be scary... so I really enjoyed it a lot.
The first day I started reading this book, yesterday, I read like half of the book in 30 minutes, or a little more than that, but who really cares right? and then, I looked at the clock and it was like 10pm and I was still reading the freaking book, and I was lying in my bed reading a horror book before sleep... and I just thought "ok Landa... you went nuts... you're not going to sleep at all" - and just don't laugh of me because this book can be seriously scary sometimes, so I was like thinking that I would dream about a haunted doll or a murdered little girl... - ok, reading what I wrote it is not that spooky... sorry, I'm just a child!
So for you who really like horror books and ghost stories I really recommend this book, I think that even if you don't like spooky books you should read it, because it has a story, it is not only "scary" material, Holly Black didn't want the kids to pee or to poo while reading every word of course, so OBVIOUSLY it has a lot of story, actually a lot of interesting story! Of course that I don't agree with the Goodreads rating of this book, but I understand it because not everyone like horror books, and not everyone is like me (and when I say it I mean that not everyone sh*t the hell out of them reading or watching creepy things).
