“I don't like you, Park," she said, sounding for a second like she actually meant it. "I..." - her voice nearly disappeared - "think I live for you."
He closed his eyes and pressed his head back into his pillow.
"I don't think I even breathe when we're not together," she whispered. "Which means, when I see you on Monday morning, it's been like sixty hours since I've taken a breath. That's probably why I'm so crabby, and why I snap at you. All I do when we're apart is think about you, and all I do when we're together is panic. Because every second feels so important. And because I'm so out of control, I can't help myself. I'm not even mine anymore, I'm yours, and what if you decide that you don't want me? How could you want me like I want you?"
He was quiet. He wanted everything she'd just said to be the last thing he heard. He wanted to fall asleep with 'I want you' in his ears.”
Eleanor is a new girl in town, a redhead. She walks alone at school and she definitely has a chaotic family life. Her mom is married to a shitty man, an aggressive man who mistreats her... needless to say that Eleanor HATES her stepfather.
Park is the boy at the back of the bus, he is asian. He thinks that he can be invisible, but he is never invisible to Eleanor.
“Eleanor was right. She never looked nice. She looked like art, and art wasn't supposed to look nice; it was supposed to make you feel something.”
I can't say that I didn't like the book because I liked it... I can't say that I loved the book because I didn't love the book.
When I started reading this I couldn't get right into the story, I don't know why... I just couldn't. It was a bit difficult for me to actually start enjoying reading this book, to start liking the characters.
One of the things that I liked in this book was the fact that "Eleanor and Park" are one of the most improbable and weird couple I had ever seen in my life, and I swear that that's not a bad thing in my opinion... actually it was what I liked the most about the story. The story is passed in the 80's which is quite nice in my sincere opinion.
*****Now a little of SPOILER: if you didn't read this book and you want to just don't read the rest of it!*****
What I really didn't like about this book was the end of it... not because it was the end but because I didn't like it, it was strange and got really confused because they were supposed to be together, like together -together and not together - apart of each other like miles away.
